JUNE. Month of my birthday and of International Yoga Day

 



In the international month of yoga and on my birthday, it seemed like a very good way to celebrate both of us by sharing a brief experience of what yoga means to me and why I recommend and celebrate it so much. I sincerely hope that more and more people can experience it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU (to the one I was, am, and will be, and to the yoga teachers), now their teachings of yoga accompany me in life.

Yoga, together with Ayurveda, has taught me and continues to teach me to respect and take care of my body, thoughts, actions, and emotions. It's not something that is easy, but it gives us tools, techniques, and above all, patience to learn that changes don't happen overnight, that like everything in life, it requires practice, habits, respecting our process, without feeling guilty, but with respect and responsibility.

I used to breathe through my mouth until I started practicing yoga due to allergies since childhood. If I tried to breathe through my nose, I would hyperventilate, feel dizzy, I didn't know how to do it. I didn't know that the most affordable, quick, and effective tool to calm my anxiety, focus, improve my physical, mental, and spiritual health was to breathe correctly through the nose.

I used to live in the future, learning to breathe was the biggest step I took to calm my mind and anxiety. Of course, the practice of postures (knowing how to breathe is fundamental), yoga exercises and techniques, relaxation, and meditation, all of them, teach me to be present, here and now.

Before yoga, I was studying law and dance, working under stress. Back pain in my lower back, middle back, and neck was a common occurrence, and diclofenac no longer helped me (not even with pridinol), and it hurt my stomach, so that's how I spent my days. After incorporating yoga into my life, I stopped taking medication (or almost).

Through practice, I was able to overcome myself, become stronger, gain much more balance, which was very challenging for me, but thanks to its techniques, I experienced the pleasure of being still and supporting myself. As I have been saying, what we learn on the mat applies to life.

Not only did I greatly develop my flexibility, but I also became much more flexible in the face of life's changes, learning to adapt to them, having a flexible mind that can respond to adversity without anguish or setbacks. I learned to embrace uncertainty and let go of control over life, trusting that whatever happens is here to teach us, and it is how we react that determines what we need to learn (I'm telling you and reminding myself).

The mental freedom to not cling to old beliefs, family mandates, etc. I left law school in my fourth year. I chose the path of the heart, where I feel good, where I feel that I flow, and where I can grow wherever I am. Instead of resolving disputes, I help other people feel better because it worked for me (and still does). That's what I believe in, no more "stable careers," but rather a life in harmony, being in flow.
